Usb Power Saving Settings
Click the start button and type edit power plan in the windows search box.
Usb power saving settings. Set both the on battery and plugged in settings to disabled then click ok to apply changes. Click on power options. Click change advanced power settings. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for all of the usb root hubs on the computer.
Under the power tab you can see the power output for that usb port. Click on the power management tab and then choose the power settings you want using the check boxes next to each option. If you want usb ports to keep supplying power in sleep mode just uncheck allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. If you are using a laptop computer this feature may help if you do not want usb powered devices to draw off the computer s battery while the devices are not actively being used.
The operating system microsoft windows 7 allows the computer to shut off power to usb devices to save power. Click on ok to save your changes. If you want to enable windows vista to turn off the usb root hub when the computer is running on battery power click enabled in the on battery list. In the power options dialog box expand usb settings and then expand usb selective suspend setting.
Under the selected power plan click change plan settings. Under the power management tab you will see the option for restricting power to the usb port to save battery power. Click change advanced power settings then scroll down to usb settings and click the little plus next to usb selective suspend setting to expand the options. For the notebook computer in our example there is only a balanced setting.
Depending on your computer you may see several preset plan settings balanced power saving performance etc. Or check it to let windows turn off usb ports to save power. If you change the settings on the power plan that isn t active this won t. Choose your desired settings using the checkboxes and then click on ok to save these settings.
